Death on October 7, 2008 of Rev. Joseph James Portucheck

Rev. Joseph James Portucheck died on October 7, 2008, at age 85 years. As published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and at www.stltoday.com/obituaries, he was a Roman Catholic Priest, and a former Pastor at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Flint Hill, Missouri. See the picture of him with my Eighth Grade class, taken in 1974, on this webpage.

He was born in Martinsburg, Missouri, and grew up on his family farm in Old Monroe, Mo. The obituary states that he was influenced to join the priesthood by his Aunt, a Nun, and a first cousin, a Priest. I remember him living in Flint Hill, with his disabled sister (Marilyn Portucheck, died 2000), in the rectory. He came by my family farm sometimes and hunted. He came by himself and with others.

Visitation is today, Friday, October 10, 2008, at Kutis Affton Chapel, from 3-8p.m. The funeral mass is tomorrow, Saturday, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Soulard area near downtown St. Louis, at 10:30a.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. There is a rosary and visitation starting at 9a.m., at the church on Saturday, before the mass.

He was a Priest for 59 years, being ordained in 1949. May all the dead rest in peace.
